Radio show with Sarah

Addicted mum

Whitney Houston's daughter spoke on television for the first time about her mother's death and the battle she'd faced in life with substance abuse on Oprah's Winfrey's show. Emma Spiegler, 29, knows what it's like to grow up with a mother who's an addict. Her mum struggled with alcoholism and addiction to pain killers for many years. Emma talks about our online community where young people can talk to others who know only too well the pain of what it is like to grow up with a parent who has an addiction.

Having an alcoholic parent and turning things around

Today Giselle has courageously shared her story of living with her mum's alcoholism, which is by far not an easy thing to do. Thank you Giselle for your courage, honesty and for speaking out so that others who are afraid and living in silence may discover they are not alone and that it's OK to talk.

Giselle now volunteers with our charity COAP — Children of Addicted Parents and People — going into schools to talk to youngsters about her experience in the hope of reaching out to others who may be going through something similar.
