There are many of us
Estimates of 7 million young people are affected by parental binge drinking, hazardous drinking, and parental drug misuse. This new research from the National Addiction Centre highlights that numbers of young people affected by this issue are higher than expected. Turning Point’s Report ‘Bottling It Up’ similarly highlights that 2.6 million kids are affected by parental alcoholism.
We cannot find estimates for how many young people are affected by other addictions to things such as; gambling, work, internet, games and shopping. We also know that it’s not just parental addiction that affects young people; it’s also siblings, aunties and uncles, other family members and friends addictions which can have a significant impact on young people’s lives.
Together we can support and empower each other. There are so many of us – and we don’t have to go through it alone.
